Founded in 1984, St. James Children's Center is a nationally accredited non-profit preschool and is also a free Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK) provider.

St. James Children's Center offers open enrollment for all potty-trained children aged 2.5 to 5 years old.

St. James is the only preschool in the Upper Florida Keys to meet the rigorous accreditation guidelines of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

St. James also earned a perfect score (100%) on the State of Florida's Kindergarten Readiness evaluation for the past two years in a row (2010-2011 school year and 2009-2010 school year).

The preschool is offered as a ministry of St. James the Fisherman Episcopal Church to the community. The center is is guided by a board of directors made up of parents, community members and members of the church.

SueEllen Bennett has been the Director of St. James Children's Center since 1985. She is a certified Childcare Manager with Advanced Director's Credentials and is a member of:

* Florida Association of the Education of Young Children
* Florida Children's Forum Director Network
* National Association of Episcopal Schools

The objective of St. James Children's Center is to provide each child with a healthy environment in which to grow. In an atmosphere of love, each child can develop physically, mentally, socially, and intellectually to his or her highest potential. We further the child’s social growth by stressing love of country, good manners, self control, self reliance, consideration of others, cooperation and sportsmanship.
